Results of SPECIAL TOWN MEETING ON APRIL 16

TO DECIDE ON BORROWING UP TO $1.3 MILLION FOR SCHOOL STREET PROJECTS

After 10 minutes, the few voters there voted to borrow up to $1.3M spread over 20 years at a rate of 5.73%

Two projects are planned for School and Water Street to reconstruct drainage systems and the road itself.  One project is a partnership with MaineDOT to improve subsurface drainage off School Street and under Water St to the river.  That will be about $300K and is planned to occur in May or June before the bridge project in July and August.

The second more extensive project involves reconstructing School Street from Water St up to Hillcrest Ave and rebuilding a sidewalk on the south side.  That 1100 ft. section is in poor condition and has no subsurface underdrains and has little gravel base.  It will be reconstructed with new underdrains, new gravel base, a few catch basins and new pavement....and the new sidewalk.  That is planned for late summer and is upwards of $1 M.

Project bids were sent to 8 contractors and only 2 replied with proposals.  All the details of these projects and the plans and bid results can be seen here.

A public hearing was held on April 2 at 5 PM to ask questions of the Board.  About 10 people were there.
